The 10 commandments for a successful hike
Several pairs of socks, you will take with you
Who says hiking, says sweating. Who says perspiration, says humidity. Who says humidity, says BULBS ! (Elementary my dear Watson). Changing socks during your hike could then save your poor feet, and savor your day's walk to the end.
The markup, in advance you will spot
And yes to Cahors - Lot Valley the circuits are extremely well signposted. Nevertheless, it may happen that a circuit offers different signs, alternating GR (red and white markings) and PR (yellow markings) for example.
So to avoid taking the wrong path and constantly scrutinizing your map, we advise you to identify the markups that will be useful to you the day before.
The new shoes, you will banish
Have you just bought a brand new pair of shoes to start new adventures on wonderful hiking trails? No precipitation ! So that the hike takes place in the best conditions, take shoes that are already made for your feet ! So take the time to put them on often and regularly before leaving for a walk of several hours.
1L5 of water, you will carry
The Lot valley has a relatively dry and hot climate. You will therefore be able to enjoy fabulous walks in glorious weather, but beware of hydration! So remember to take at least 1,5L of water if you leave for several hours.
From the sun, you will protect yourself
And yes here too it is a basic advice, but above all not to be neglected! The sun can be extremely aggressive, so remember to protect yourself well to avoid any risk of sunburn or sunstroke. So remember to take your sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen.
Light, you will travel
The backpack is an essential for the hiker. It allows you to forget nothing, and to have all the necessary equipment at your fingertips. Nevertheless, be careful not to overload it. A long hike of one or more days with a too heavy bag could well make your getaway difficult. Take only what is necessary ! (As an example, it is recommended to take a bag weighing 20% of the walker's weight for the itinerant hike).
A raincoat, you will anticipate
Admittedly, the weather is very often sunny in the Lot valley, but it can also happen that the rain comes along. To prevent your walk from ending in fiasco, anticipate this possible risk by taking a garment for the rain. A simple cape can do the trick. Advantage: it is extremely light and takes up little space in your backpack.
Small snacks, you will provide
During your hike, you will have to provide physical effort. So your body needs energy to keep you going. We recommend that you always take a small sweet snack with you (dried fruits and nuts for example) to avoid any slack.
An external battery, you will anticipate
This recommendation is especially valid for people who leave with a mobile phone with low autonomy, or those who leave for several days. Although it is important to disconnect to savor the nature that awakens in front of you, it is always reassuring to have a mobile phone in working order in case of problems to be able to call for help. The external battery is therefore a means of guarantee the maintenance of the functioning of your phone for a long time.
Attentive and present, you will be
And here is the most valuable advice we will give you here: savor, enjoy, contemplate... Reconnect with your senses, and observe everything around you. You will see that the Lot valley has thousands of hidden treasures, and if you are attentive you will discover an incredible richness both on our magnificent territory and within yourself.
