The name "Montcuq", which always lends to a smile, would come from the Latin "mons" (mount) attached to another word of pre-Indo-European origin, "tuc" or "cuc", designating a summit. Here at the end of the XNUMXth and beginning of the XNUMXth century, a tower of the Counts of Toulouse was erected at the top of a rocky mound, while on the southern slope a small castle town developed.
