Exhibition Baby, welcome to the party, Caroline poggi and jonathan vinel + guests

"Welcome to the party, baby": a title borrowed from the flagship song of American rapper Pop Smoke, who experienced a meteoric rise in 2019 before being murdered at his home in February 2020.
Based on the figure of this musician struck down in full flight, like many rappers before him, the duo of filmmakers Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel invites us to a party of a particular kind. The party is sad, it is over. Like a kidnapping in the middle of a birthday party. Like an attack in the middle of a concert. A disaster, human or natural, that strikes without warning. A sudden disappearance, a recurring theme in the filmography of the two filmmakers.

Programme

Between desperate energy and exacerbated romanticism, their films portray a generation brought up in the digital age and who have just reached adulthood. 3D images, pop music, video games, rural or peri-urban explorations: visual and sound references jostle each other in their films and hold up a barely distorting mirror to our time.

Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel, who are discovering the format of the exhibition, deploy their universe of cinema in the space of the Maison des arts, transformed for the occasion into a ghostly film set. Echoing the presentation of several short films, including their latest product this year, they invite their friends – painters, sculptors and musicians – to join them. Baby, welcome to the party!
