The donkey festival in Luzech

The association Friends of the Donkeys of Luzech is organizing for the first time “the donkey party” in Luzech during the Ascension weekend. This event aims to promote professions and activities that revolve around our friends the donkeys.
The donkey is an animal that is often overlooked, but this animal is extraordinary in terms of its intelligence, courage and strength. With the donkey there are various possibilities: carriage rides, walks with a pack, work in the fields or in the vineyards, animal mediation, but above all this animal is an everyday companion.

This event also aims to introduce people to the profession of donkey driver. A profession that is very little known to the public. As well as all the other professions that revolve around equine breeding and in particular the world of donkeys.

The friends of the donkeys of Luzech are eager to participate in the restoration project of the Im towerpernal. The Tower of Impernal in Luzech is the subject of a restoration and rehabilitation project. Indeed, the town hall and many Luzechois residents have the ambition to make this tower a place for visits and cultural life. The signing of a subscription with the Heritage Foundation was made official on Thursday March 23. The friends of the donkeys of Luzech want
take advantage of their donkey festival to highlight this beautiful project.

Program

Friday, May 10th, 2024
- 16:30 p.m. – 19:00 p.m.: Welcome of the donkey drivers at Notre-Dame de l'Île followed by a stroll in a flower parade with the donkeys in the streets of the town of Luzech.

Saturday May 11, 2024:
- 8:30 a.m.: Opening of the producers' and artisans' market as well as the garage sale (registration at 06.81.28.77.12).
- 10:00 a.m.: Official opening of the party by the Mayor and officials.
- 10:00 a.m.: From treasure hunt: 4 km through the vineyard and opening of the fair for children.
- 12:30 p.m.: Meal (Paella €14. Registration required 06.83.99.56.23) or food truck
- 14:00 p.m.: Presentation of the donkeys for the competition for the most beautiful donkey or donkey
- 14:30 p.m.: From donkey rides, carriage rides, plowing demonstrations, farrier demonstrations, donkey driver associations and unions, etc.
- 15:00 p.m.: Start of handling tests with the public (registration required)
- 19:00 p.m.: Aperitif offered by the Town Hall in the presence of officials
- 20:30 p.m.: Festive meal in the presence of officials

Sunday, May 12, 2024
- 9:00 a.m.: Producers and artisans market on Place du Canal
- 11:00 a.m.: Prize giving: most beautiful donkey, winner of the handling tests, winner of the treasure hunt
- 12:00 p.m.: Aperitif to close the festivities
- 16:00 p.m.: End of market
