The stopover gîte is a group gîte designed to accommodate hikers, cycle tourists or horse riders. Reception is by night in collective rooms and common services, with prices for non-grouped services.
In principle, it is located on a recognized hiking route (GR, FFRP, etc.) or less than 2 km from these itineraries and favor overnight stays.
Accommodation in a stopover gîte has a collective dimension. In this context, the operator can offer catering services or the provision of a self-managed kitchen.
Obligations
From a legal point of view, the services provided in the context of stopover lodgings correspond to the exercise of a commercial activity and therefore require several steps:
- Registration in the Trade and Companies Register (RCS) with the Registry of the Commercial Court
- Registration with the Business Formalities Center (CFE) of the Chamber of Commerce
- Collect, declare and remit the tourist tax at the tourist office.
- For accommodation accommodating more than 15 people: they are considered as 5th category ERP (Establishment Receiving the Public) and must therefore comply with the following obligations and receive a favorable opinion from the safety commission:
- Handicap access
- Evacuation of people
- Fire safety (exits, extinguishers, plan, safety register for professionals)
Tax
From a tax point of view, the owners concerned fall under:
- either micro-enterprise scheme if these are activities carried out on an individual basis whose annual turnover does not exceed €176 (200),
- either of a actual tax system commercial profits.

Qualification
The departmental repository Gîte d'été
There is not yet a regulatory definition for this type of tourist accommodation: there is therefore no no official ranking.
On the other hand, the Lot Tourist Development Agency (Lot Tourisme) created a departmental repository.
- His goal : qualification of accommodation suitable for hiking, meeting basic criteria in terms of comfort and safety.
- Eligibility: the gîte must offer a minimum of 6 beds.
A gîte that meets the criteria of this departmental reference system can claim the “Rando Etape” label. More details a little further down in the labels section.
The Mini Guide to Stopover Gîtes
For accommodation with less than 6 places
Allows Tourist Offices to assess the quality of the accommodation offer "stopover lodgings not falling within the "departmental stopover lodging" standard
Allows you to know the whole offer to provide advice with a view to improving the reception and services.

Labeling
Hike Stage
It is intended for accommodation structures that have set up suitable services to accommodate non-motorized hikers who practice roaming: pedestrians, horseback riders, cycle tourists, mountain bikers.
The Agence Fromementale du Tourisme (ADT) has set up this specific welcome charter, to which the stopover lodgings meeting the departmental reference system (cited above) can claim.
The prerequisites for obtaining the “Rando Etape” qualification are:
- Be located less than 2 km from a long-distance hiking route or an equestrian trail
- Be open at least 6 months continuously
- Have a minimum capacity of 6 beds

Home Horse
The Lot Equestrian Tourism Association takes care of the qualification of establishments that comply with the Accueil Cheval Charter. This guarantees the horseback rider a place of reception for his horses, at least equipped:
- Attachment points: bar, rings, rope or chain with retainers
- Fenced parks without barbed wire
- Water points at the finish and in the paddocks
- From a shower point
- A sheltered room for storing saddlery equipment
- Quality hay
- Accommodation on site or nearby
