Exhibition “Dachau A Past More Than Present”

The French Association of the Dachau Concentration Camp produced an exhibition of 25
panels which are intended to be an educational support for transmitting the memory of the Deportation and Resistance to Nazism during the Second World War to various audiences.
It presents the history of the Dachau camp, the “mother house” of the Nazi concentration camp universe, the methodical organization of its operation, the daily life of the deportee and the process of dehumanization of which he was a victim, until the liberation of the camp. It also presents the history and mission of our association created in 1945 by Edmond Michelet, himself a survivor of the Dachau camp.
The exhibition thus allows the visitor to grasp and understand all the horror and the unimaginable of deportation, but also to discover and share all the human values of resistance and solidarity which allowed the survivors not only to survive in the camp, but to retain the little humanity that the Nazi totalitarian system tried to take away from them.
This exhibition was produced on the basis of numerous historical works, the association's archives, but also and above all based on direct testimonies (written and oral) from deportees.
Each panel deals with a specific theme of the Dachau Concentration Camp with texts and photos. A timeline exists on most of them in order to situate the theme in time. In the first panel of the exhibition, faces of deportees from the Dachau Concentration Camp are embedded in the letters of the name DACHAU.
